Botox Headache: Cause or Cure?

People using Botox may be likely to experience headaches, among other side effects. While not serious, a Botox headache can be annoying; a Botox headache may last for a few hours, or a few days, a persistent, nagging pain that never gets really bad, and yet never really goes away. Botox has many applications, but oddly enough, one of those is for headaches.

A headache treatment whose side effects may be headaches? Only in this modern world of medicines replete with side effects--some of which seem more severe than the affliction the medicine is treating to begin with--does that make sense. And even then, it's an iffy proposition. But regardless of how much sense it makes, the fact remains, the Botox headache cure is the hottest new thing around.

When used this way, the Botox headache cure should be injected into the skin, rather than the muscle. The most encouraging results, however, were for migraines, especially those where other medications did not seem to work particularly well. But be warned; Botox has not been approved for use for headaches by the FDA, and they don't know what the long-term risks and benefits are when used for headaches. Talk with your doctor about whether or not Botox is the right treatment for your headaches. And a further word of warning; in one study, it was only effective for complete headache relief in about a third of the patients it was tested on. Another third found partial relief from headaches, and a third experienced no significant differences. Other studies have had better results.

Those who suffer from Botox headaches as a result of using Botox to cure wrinkles (or one of the many other new uses scientists are finding for it) may be surprised to hear this, but in fact, Botox may very well be an excellent cure for headaches. The Botox headache cure, the next big thing? May be!
